1. Overview: All three assessments in this unit focuses on a listed Australian company of your choice. Part One: Investigation focuses on the competitive strategy responses of your chosen company. The Financial Analyses Report (Part Two) focuses on the financial performance and voluntary disclosure trends of your chosen publicly listed company within a particular industry.  Lastly, in the Individual Presentation (Part Three) you will give a video presentation on the analyses performed in the first two assessments, taking into account the feedback provided. 

Investigation (Part One) The Investigation assessment is due at noon, Wednesday 25th March 2020. This assessment is an individual assignment and is worth 40% of the total mark in this unit. The assessment must be submitted through Turnitin within the Assessment tab on Blackboard. The word limit for this assessment is 800 words. Please see below for more details.

Assessment Requirement: This assessment focuses on the competitive strategic position of your chosen company. Perform a Porter’s Five Forces and SWOT analysis of your chosen listed Australian company. Based on the two analyses, identify your company’s corporate and business strategy.

Investigation Report Format: The Investigation submission is to contain: l A completed Assignment Cover Page attached to the front of the portfolio (available in the Assignments folder on Blackboard); l A table of contents is NOT required for this report. However, a short introduction is required outlining the purpose of the report and background on the company. A concluding paragraph is also required that clearly summarises the report. Please see the marking rubric for the Investigation, which is available in the Assessments folder in Blackboard. l A reference list. All your references must be properly cited in your report and included in the reference list at the end of report. Students shall use the Chicago referencing style when preparing the report. More information can be found on this style from the Library web site: http://libguides.library.curtin.edu.au/referencing/Chicago. l Plagiarism is a serious academic offence. Students should become familiar with Curtin policy on plagiarism to avoid committing the offence. Student Guidelines for Avoiding Plagiarism and Student Checklist to Prevent Plagiarism can be downloaded from http://academicintegrity.curtin.edu.au/global/studentbook.cfm . l The maximum length of the Investigation report is 800 words (word count is inclusive of tables and figures but excludes the cover page, references, and appendix). Do not exceed the word limit or use inappropriate formatting such as using smaller font size, inappropriate spacing, or narrower page margin. Note that it is the quality, not the length of the report that determines the grade of the assignment.

The assignment must: l Use 12-point Times New Roman font; l 1.5 space format, 1-inch margins; l paragraphs (not dot points); and l the submitted file be named as outlined below.

2. Financial Analyses Report (Part Two) The Financial Analyses Report assessment is due at noon, Wednesday 6th May 2020. This assessment is an individual assignment and is worth 40% of the total mark in this unit. The assessment must be submitted through Turnitin within the Assessment tab on Blackboard. The word limit for this assessment is 800 words. Please see below for more details.

Assessment Requirement: Scrutinize your chosen company’s Annual Report and other reports for performance trends of the company. Perform an analysis of the financial performance of your chosen company over the past two consecutive years. Also, investigate the level of modern slavery disclosures of your chosen company in the most recent reports and/or websites. Using accounting theories that you have studied, identify possible reasons for the level of voluntary disclosures.

Report Format: The report submission is to contain: l A completed Assignment Cover Page attached to the front of the report (available in the Assignments folder on Blackboard); l A table of contents is NOT required for this report. However, an introduction paragraph and a concluding paragraph are required. The introduction should outline the importance of conducting a financial analysis and identifying performance trends. The conclusion should evaluate the performance of the chosen company as a result of the analyses performed. 3. The Individual Presentation is due at noon, Friday 29th May 2020. This assessment is an individual video presentation and is worth 20% of the total mark in this unit. The time limit for presentation is 10 minutes. Please see below for more details. 

Assessment Requirement: Your employer is looking at establishing an investment portfolio of ethically responsible companies. You have been asked to give a presentation on your chosen company. Specifically, they have asked that your presentation should discuss the results of the following: an industry analysis; an organisational analysis; an analysis of financial performance; and an analysis of the company's level of disclosure on modern slavery. Most importantly, your presentation should make a clear recommendation on whether your company should invest in the company or not.
