More Than 10 Language Techniques You Need to Know

Have you ever wondered what plays an important role in writing a story or assignment writing? The language technique plays an essential role in writing the story or assignment writing. Language technique is the elements that are used in writing to emphasize on the theme which is being focused by the writer. 1. Assonance – It is a resemblance in the sounds of words or syllables between their vowels. It is particularly used in English language poetry and occurs more often in verse. For example, “The mother spoke in low mellow tone” which contains the repetition of the “o” sound. 

2. Imagery – This language technique is used when the author describes the scene or the idea in such a way that the reader parts of the story. This is used to create a strong mental picture in the reader's mind. This is a great technique when the writer wants the reader to visualize the scene. 

3. Imperative – This is the most important technique in writing and is used as an expression to give instructions or requests, an order, a command or a direction. These are usually simple and short, but depending on the context can be a long and little complex. It is often referred to as the grammatical mood that forms a command or request. 

4. Minor Sentences – There are times when the writer uses single words or sentence fragments, which are known as random sentences or minor sentences. This technique means the word or phrase functioning as a complete sentence. Nominal sentences are also included in the minor sentences.

5. Idioms – This technique is used while talking in conversational language. It is a phrase or fixed expression that has a figurative meaning. These are usually used in daily life; they are abbreviated, and the reader understands the full meaning. When estimated, the English language has at least twenty-five thousand idiomatic expressions. 

6. Proverb – This technique is similar to idioms and popularly used in daily life. The writer uses this technique to join the minor sentences to express the truth on common sense or shared experiences. These are the self-contained sentences. It is the traditional saying that expresses the truth based on common sense. 

7. Neologism – This technique was invented by Shakespeare but has not yet been fully accepted in the mainstream language. Neologism is often directly attributable to a specific person, publication, period or event like “cold-blooded” If the word or phrase is no longer “new” then it is no longer a neologism; however, the opinion differs. 

8. Onomatopoeia – This technique copies the natural sound of a thing and makes the description more expressive and interesting. This technique brings more meaning to the sentences and is used to attract the attention of the reader. Onomatopoeia means the imitation of a sound, and in the Greek language, it means making or creating names. 

9. Personal Pronoun – This technique is used to attract the reader’s attention immediately to make them involved and engaged. The personal pronoun is the words such as I, me, you, me, he, she, and all. These are particularly associated with the grammatical person; first person, second person or the third person. 

10. Personification – This technique is used to give life and meaning to the non-human object. This relates to the qualities of a person to the objects. This is used to contributes to our sense of togetherness with the non-living objects. This technique is mostly used in the visual arts; which means giving the examples of living beings to non-living beings. 

11. Rhyme- This technique is the most popular one and is usually used in poems or songs as it gives a pleasing effect to a poem. Rhyme is a reiteration of the parallel sounding words stirring at the end of lines in poem or song. The most popular rhymes known to everyone in the nursery rhymes and they are the perfect examples to define rhyme completely. 

12. Simple Sentences – This is the technique which is extremely useful to the students as it makes communication easy to understand. The students find it easy to use as they are short and to the point. A popular technique to make assignments simple for students. These are simple to use as they have one independent clause with the simple subject. 

13. Slangs – This technique is also popular among teenagers, musicians or others. People with high social status would probably avoid using slangs and might criticize the people who use it. It is the informal register that members of group use to exclude all others. This technique is mostly the phenomenon of speech. 

14. Slogan – This popular technique is prevalent among everyone. They are short and striking phrases which are used to describe the event, company or major thing. This is used to grab the attention of the readers, especially used in the advertisement. A slogan is used as appealing to the audience and has the attributes of being memorable. 

15. Irony – This technique is used typically for humorous or empathetic effect. This is typically the complex technique to use as it is normally used to convey the meaning exactly opposite to what is expected. This has many different types like verbal irony, situational irony, and dramatic irony. 

It is crucial to know that learning language techniques is the ongoing process. There is a wide range of language techniques which are not possible to put them all in one place. While the students may learn the purest form to complete the assignments at the university but in the long run, they will need to learn different language techniques and how to use them successfully.
