Assessment Details:

Learning and development plan is the basis for development or enhancement of professional competencies. It provides a basis for assessing and developing key managerial and leadership competencies. Preparation of the L&D Plan is a major task and cannot be treated lightly as the eventual L&D Plan will be a personalised program. Preparation of the individual L&D Plan should follow a structured approach. It is expected that students will adheres to the word limits of 2,500 words and will discuss the following topics in their L&D Plan accompanied by the list of references at the end written in Harvard style.

Section 1:Self Introduction. Describe your background, qualifications, experience, etc.

Section 2:Megatrends and Challenges. Describe what is happening locally and internationally in the industry/profession of your interest such as challenges, size of investment, competition, intended improvements, etc.

Section 3:Goals: Describe how do you see yourself in the industry/profession of your interest and the sort of expectations placed on you; what are the goals of your employer/clients? What are your own career goals, how do these fit next to each other etc.

Section 4:Ethics and Professional Values: Describe in detail what you consider to be appropriate professional values and correct set of ethics to follow in your career/profession and how you can promote ethics in the future. Note that these must be described explicitly and general statement such as I will follow XYZ’s Code of Professional Conduct will not be accepted. Spell out in bullet points what values you would follow and the set of ethics that will guide your professional conduct.

Section 5:Competency Assessment: Present your own self-analysis of Managerial & Leadership competencies along with Socio-cultural & Personal Competencies. Competency metrics (5 stages of competencies) can be used for this purpose. Describe explicitly in your analysis how you plan to address the competency gap between your current and future competency goal. Be 100% honest with yourself while assessing your own competencies. If you genuinely believe that you can meet the criteria indicated in competency metrices at the given level, you should present the corresponding evidence to prove your case. For example, if you believe your Socio-cultural competency is at Informed level you need to demonstrate how you meet the criteria based on 5 stages of competencies. When someone claims to have a certain competency, he or she may well possess that competency but without providing detailed proof no-one can verify that it is the case. For this reason, it is assumed that he/she does not possess the respective competencies unless well demonstrated. One major point to note is that documentation is very critical in this instance and in all other professional endeavours. Present your consolidated competency assessment in both graphical and tabular form. You also need to define your professional development scope based on Section 5. For example, the area of competencies gap identified in Section 5 is the scope for professional development and this scope varies per person. In your professional development summary, you also need to find out which projects or industry contexts you would need in order to provide adequate opportunity to develop your competencies. You may use a SWOT analysis to summarise your current strengths and weakness and identify opportunity or threats that stand in your way of achieving your competency goal. 1. Self-introduction

With the ramified changes in the economy, I need to work upon my skills and attributes to strengthen my employability and create an effective future for my career. I am a good student completed my bachelor of technology in civil from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University - Hyderabad, Telangana, India. After that, I completed my different educational programs to strengthen my soft skills. I am also a certified engineer accompanied with the computer skills such as AutoCAD 2007-15 versions (2D & 3D, Microsoft Office (Excel, Power-Point, and Word), Sketch Up. I have divergent thinking to resolve complex issues and also developed a coherent work approach to multitasking in my work.  I have good skills in visualization and conceptualization ability to work under pressure. I completed my training program in SSP Nirman & Projects PVT LTD, India, where I was indulged in handling and supervise jobs as per construction designs, monitor any errors and rectify them accordingly and mitigate the complex process issues in the assigned work. I have also good soft skills to guide and advise the labour on correct techniques of building a house. I used to work as a site engineer for the site inspection, maintain construction work in progress and understanding the material standards which were required to build a house. Being a Civil Engineer, I possess strong communication and interpersonal skills which enables me to effective collaboration with team members of different engineering fields. I possess a basic understanding of Architecture, Electrical, Mechanical & Electronics engineering, which makes me a perfect fit to work in any construction project. As per changing environments at the site, I am flexible to those changes and can maneuver my way to adjusting according to it. This helps me to deliver effective problem solving and investigative skills.

2. Megatrends and Challenges

There have been drastic changes in the construction industry due to the financial crises.  I have analyzed constructions of the bridges, dams, harbors, canals, roads, tunnels, and water-supply systems are highly based on the government policies and budget of the country. Due to the financial crises, construction work in the economy has been reduced by 28% for last three years. In addition to this, it has been analyzed that total construction project for the civil engineering project excluding the detached housing sectors has shown the steady growth of 8.3% for last three years. However, in many another country such as the USA, Europe, and Japan have shown high growth and these countries have higher construction rate in the world economy. This construction industry is based on the inflation rate, government budget, and economic condition. I have found that if the economic condition and gross domestic product of the country are stable  then the outlook of the constructions industry will be positive and vice-versa (Rozenfeld, Sacks, Rosenfeld & Baum, 2010). The megatrend of the construction industry is found in Australia due to the increased Australian $ value as compared to another economy. It is found that foreign exchange reserve of Australia is way too high which has impacted the Australian dollar value. This is one of the biggest positive indicators for the increasing growth of the Construction industry. Nonetheless, export from Australia has also increased by an average 23% since last three year which reflects that there would be a need for setting up new offices and factory. This will show the increasing demand of the civil engineer (Buchholz, et al. 2016).  I have focused on completing my civil engineering master degree course in Australia. According to the marketing trend of Australia, I have found that I first need to polish my civil engineering skills. After that, I would focus on integrating my own knowledge with the advanced technologies and system process. I have found that with the changes in technologies development, most of the civil engineers are inclined towards advanced technologies and system process. These advance machinery and system process not only strengthen their civil engineer work but also increase their potential to get more profitable projects (Harter, 2019). I have also analyzed that in Australia, civil engineers mainly focus on smart work and align the interest of the clients with their work. They mostly focus on preparing the customized design and buildings as per the client's need and demand which helps them to explore their skills towards the changing business needs.  The Australian statically data reveals that the residential construction industry in the amount of value has increased to CAGR of 11.4% during 2017-2019. In addition to this, the commercial building construction in Australia has also increased CAGR of 6.2% over the forecast period. Furthermore, infrastructure development has been taken place and increased to be US$ 80.6 billion in 2018 (Casey, 2013). 

3. Goal

This construction industry has been rapidly changing and with the increasing growth of this industry, the demand for the civil engineers have also increased throughout the time. I have the goal to develop my civil engineering skills. I have several skills but as per the market and industry context, I found that I am very expressive in my work. I use my own divergent thinking and innovative work approach to do my work. I never copy any one's style while designing and constructing something. I have found that I use my own divergent thinking to design unique infrastructures. However, my interest is in building commercial malls (Lorente,  Salanova Martínez, & Vera, 2014). I have several designs in my mind which will not only be attractive to clients but also be helpful for them to meet their commercial objectives. I have focused on developing designing which is attractive and workable places. Nowadays, business owners are facing issues related to the office design and lack of infrastructure management in premises. As per my views, I have understood that we being civil engineers need to align our interest with the client ‘need and demand for commercial and household construction. This will not only strengthen own coherent design thinking for developing challenging infrastructures but also helps in client's satisfaction. I have several expectations for me. For instance, I want to work independently on a project where I design a building or house for someone. I want to explore my own construction and management skills. However, I might face the issue in starting but once I want to work independently without taking any one's guidance. Nonetheless, I have found that my communication skills are little weak which I need to strengthen throughout the time. Civil engineering work is more of management than of creativity. I also want to improve my management skills which will help me to manage the labours and getting work done in an effective manner. I firstly need to complete my master degree in civil engineer (Stajkovic, & Luthans, 2018). After that, I will get myself hired in a multinational company where civil engineering work is done. For the initial 6 months, I would be working as an assistant with a renounced civil engineer which will help me to engrave the key skills in my mind. The learning I get from there will be useful to strengthen my own employability towards by better future. My career goal is to become a famous civil engineer and at the same time, managing a strong team with me. I want to set parameters for my future such as creating a team who will collaborate with me for my future work. I also want to set up a strong brand image for my work by creating a legal entity. I also have a goal to complete 5 construction work in a year under my own surveillance in my initial time period. These are the big goals which I have set for my future. Nonetheless, I have also decided to focus on constructing the customized projects which will best suit as per the requirement of the clients in the market (Paquet, et al. 2015).

4. Ethics and Professional Values

The ethics are the moral philosophy and implementation of one's values which everyone needs to take into account while working in a particular profession. I have learned that without ethics and professional values, no professional could survive in the market for the long run. I want to set my own integrity with my work which will help me to learn to innovate work and resolving complicated issues in an effective manner. I need to comply with the professional ethics and set code of conduct in my professional and personal life in order to obtain a challenging position in a multinational organization where my expertise in civil engineering adds value to it and my skills are enriched to greater scales.  From conceptualization to commissioning, my contribution of proficiency and experience would always be an asset to the organization and will be highly supported by the professionalism, integrity, accountability, and responsibility which I will set for my civil engineering work (Min, Kim, & Parnianpour, 2012).

There are several codes of ethics and professionalism which I need to comply with in order to have a sustainable future in civil engineering and construction industry.

Act with the integrity, diligence, and competency- I need to first develop diligence in me for the work. However, I am always integrated with the assigned work and responsible for delivering the best possible outcomes in my work. I need to comply with the set code of conduct so that I could better be managed my career as per the market need and changing economic conditions.

Professionalism with integrity- professionalism is the most imperative for future growth in civil engineering work. I have found that I need to set rules and regulation for my work which will help me to design my own dos and don’ts. 

Accountability- This is the code of conduct which reflects my liability towards the undertaken work or completed work. I will be accountable towards each and every work if anything goes wrong I will surely make my efforts to rectify the same.

Professional competency- I need to integrate with professionalism while working on the field. I need to develop proper professional skills in me so that I could be more influencer in my work (Takala, et al. 2010).

5. Competency Assessment

I am very good at management and leadership skills. I am a good influencer and I have good tactics to get the work done in an effective manner. However, I am weak in team management and resource management. I have been facing problems in allocating of the resources. This has resulted in the various problem in my civil engineering work till now.  However, in the constituent work, I could easily manage the complex problems and issues in my work but when the procedural work is adapted toward the change, I feel like trapped the particular situation. I need to develop my own adaptive skills by implementing the change management in my work profile. This will be more useful in developing cognitive skills and knowledge (Calhoun., Rider, Peterson & Meyer., 2010).

Generic I have the basic knowledge to achieve the project outcomes. However, I also get stuck with complexities due to my lack of management skills. I need to develop my management skills to mitigate the generic issues.
Leadership I am good in understanding the team problems but due to my autocratic leadership style, I make working complex and could not influence my team members toward the better work program.
I am weak in completing my task in time due to the lack of work efficiency. I firstly need to learn time management to mitigate this drawback.

Attitude My attitude towards the work is very positive but due to the complexities and hustle of work I get lost in the middle and found negative results. I need to set parameters to develop my skills.
Self-direction I am self-directed in this civil- engineering work but I need to sharpen my skills so that I could increase my employability on the international level. I need to undertake a more professional program.
Learning I am weak in remembering tough works. I need to focus on using the technologies which will give me timely reminders for my work.

I have several drawbacks which I need to improve to make me more efficient in my work. I have low leadership and Socio-cultural competency which is the biggest drawback for my professional career. However, I will use teamwork and self- management program to improve my skill. I will focus on assessing my own problems and where I could make an improvement to strengthen my own skill. I firstly need to assess the improvement area and where I am lacking in my leadership skills (Hatcher, & Bringle, 2017). In addition to this, I am also not so good at using the advanced technologies and system process. I could easily mitigate my issue my taking proper training and development program. This will help me to understand the usability and efficiently handling advance technologies and system process. This skill will be beneficial for the career and strengthen my own employability in the long run. I have also found my issue in communication skills which will also be developed by taking proper personality development program (Rosso, & Frey, 2013). I need to strengthen my communication skills so that I could make my work more effective. As per the swot analysis tool, I have good strength in my team learning and procedural work. I am good at handling my procedural work and always manage my process work effectively. Nonetheless, I fail to communicate my efforts to my team members due to my lack of communication skills. The potential opportunity for my career is that if I increase my social-cultural skill with others then I could easily adapt my attitude with the people of different culture. I need to work upon my own attitude to make me more effective towards future growth. The main threat would be more for me is the use of technologies.
