To complete this assignment, students will develop a research proposal that describe a plan for a specific research project based on readings, workshop discussions and the work they have done throughout the semester focusing on a research question. It is required that the proposal must be contextualised to a specific research topic/question that could be researched. you need to identify a research topic that you are interested in potentially researching. The research project you propose in this unit can be purely hypothetical, or you could take the opportunity to explore a topic that you would hope to research in the future. Students are expected to clearly explain what they are planning to research, to describe why they want to research their chosen topic/question and to provide an overview of the anticipated outcome of their research proposal.
Introduction of the Research topic – 10 marks
The introduction provides an overview of the research topic, its purpose and the broad field within which it is located. This is followed by a description of the specific area of your interest and the topic of your research. Finally, a short statement on how you see that you research will contribute to the existing research/knowledge about the field. For example: it might be to address a gap in the research; the impact of an issue on a specific group of people; a specific lens on the issue; addressing policy in the field. etc.
Research question / thesis statement – (5 marks for sections 2 and 3)
Here you identify your specific research question. The research question may not be a question as such, but rather a precise statement of a problem to be investigated.

Bibliography (list of relevant references used to prepare the proposal (not included in the word count) – 5 marks
The minimum number of references stated in the marking criteria is 20 relevant books, book chapters, and journal articles. You can include relevant www sites (correctly referenced) or ‘grey literature’ but these are additional. Remember this a proposal for an ‘academic’ research project. The particular places that should be citation heavy are sections (4, 5, and 6), though all sections should include citations to resources that justify the decisions you have made about your project direction/approach.
Your proposal should be written in a scholarly style (with minimal use of notes or dot points). You should pay the same attention to style, grammar and spelling as you would for any written assignment. You should utilise informative sub-headings to organise your ideas. Do not include an additional introduction or conclusion (these Assessments should be submitted as a WORD document (incorrect loading of file may lead to a fail grade).

Referencing is an assessable component of this assignment. You are expected to have read at least 20 academic readings in developing your ideas. In this instance, a bibliography (rather than a reference) list should be included to demonstrate the background and developmental reading that you have done. At least 10 of these readings need to be cited within the text. References should be formatted using either Harvard (author, date), or APA style.
It is important to place an emphasis on the continual development of your written communication skills. It is expected that assessments will be edited and utilise clear and understandable English Expression. Avoid using GoogleTranslate (or similar). Experience has shown that these programs are unreliable, and that students often do poorly when reliant on them. The word count for the proposal is 2000 words (+/- 10%). The word count includes Your text and in text references, but excludes any prescribed headings nor the bibliography/reference list. Be aware that penalties will apply for being over/under the word limit.
Marking will be undertaken using a rubric and marking criteria, and some formative feedback. Results will not be released until the final grades for semester have been officially released. You should utilise feedback to refine and redevelop your ideas for assessment in second semester.

TOPIC: EFFECT OF BODY SHAMING ON YOUNG PEOPLE
This research is entirely based on body shaming and the effect of body shaming on the lives of young people. It is often believed that young people do not love getting called "fat". This has resulted in people become interested in body shaming or fat shaming nowadays. In addition to this, it has been identified that the body shaming is defined as the act of mockery about the shape or size of the body of the people who are fat. In addition to this, it has been found that this topic is becoming a matter of growing concern, and this is probably because of the increased frequency. It has been identified that results of body shaming vary from hurting people from insulting them by making fun of their body weight and shape. As influenced by the idea of researchers, it can be implied that from a report, significant number of women and men get harassed by their mother and percentage is much higher than predictable. Near about, 31% men and 63% women have been harassed by their mother whereas the numerical number for the people who get harassed by the friends is nearly 47% for the men and 63% for the women. In addition to this, it has been found that significant others are also involved in these body shaming activities. 5. Preliminary research review
As influenced by the idea of Dorak (2011), it can be said it has been observed self-esteem and body image has a connection between them. This article is based on the effect of the image of the body on the psychological health of adolescents. The relevance of this journal with the topic is found as this journal highlights the impact of body image of the mental development of the young adults. As influenced by the idea of Duarte, & Pinto-Gouveia (2017), it can be said that this journal helps in identifying the effects of body shaming in early as well as in the present days that results in disorders related to excessive eating habits. In addition to this, the result of this journal would help in finding ways and managing binge eating habits. Therefore, it can be said that this would help in my research by supporting how body image leads to fusion and severe or excessive eating. As stated by Ferreira, Palmeira & Trindade (2014), it can be said that this journal focuses on the impact of the body dissatisfaction, which results in psychopathology symptoms of eating. In addition to this, this journal could be used in the research study for justifying the effects of fat shaming on the mental health of young people. In the view of the Guinn, Semper & Jorgensen (1997), a viable relationship or connection can be established between the body fatness and self esteem. In addition to this, it had also been stated by the author that exercise and physical education is essential as these have a strongly associated with self-esteem. However, it has also been identified that this journal is entirely based on the female; therefore, it is partially helpful for my study. As opined by Lopez Khoury, Litvin & Brandon (2009), it can be said that there is a relation between the urge of smoking and body dissatisfaction. Moreover, there are mentions of the negative effect of body shaming on the health and leaves of young people. Therefore, this article could be used for research for identifying the negative results of the lives of the young generation. As influenced by the idea of Marta-Simões & Ferreira (2016), it can be said that this journal is focused on the depression which is the result of the body shaming and it also highlights impacts of body shaming, image of body related perfectionist and self-presentation on eating psychopathology. This journal is relevant to the topic of the research as it has many proves mentioned in it for justifying the negative effects of body shaming on the health of the people. As inferred from the context of Myers & Biocca (1992), it can be said that this journal has been written for emphasizing on the effect of media on the thin and ideal image of the body. In addition to this, it has also been found that there is a tendency of fluctuation of the body image based on the context of the media presenting the shape of the ideal body. This study is also based on women, which is a limitation. However, information from this journal can be used for explaining differences and changes in the assumptions of the ideal body. In reference to the context of Saunders & Frazier (2017), it can be said that the impacts of body dissatisfaction and how these effects can influence the lives of young adults. In addition to this, it can be said that this article is related to the topic of the research as information from this article can be used for determining the results of body shaming or body dissatisfaction on the lives of the young people. As opined by Sylvia et al. (2014), it can be said that this journal concentrates on the effect of body shaming on the body dissatisfaction of the men body. In addition to this, it can be said that this article can be just used in the research study for the idea of the difference between body image and the behaviour of young men.
6. Theoretical Framework
Epistemological position: As influenced by the idea of Walter & Walter (2013), it can be said that this research will be completely based on the body shaming and its drastic effects on the psychological well being of the young people. In reference to the context of Miller (2014), it can be said that in this research there will be a focus on different types of epistemological methodologies for identifying the issues related to the topic of the research. In addition to this, there will also be the focus on the positivist and the result of the positivism or post-positivism.
Theoretical perspective: In reference to the context of Verma (2017), it can be implied that the theoretical perspective of the research describes the source, nature, and development of the research. In addition to this, it has been observed that the theoretical perspective of any research is the reflections of the assumption of the author for determining the strategies of the research. In this research, there will be the utilization of the positivism research theory for making the collected data of the research concretely structured. In addition to this, the examination of the collected data of the research would be done either by quantitative or qualitative data analysis.
Methodology: In reference t the context of Griffin (2016), it can be said that quantitative data analysis will be done for conducting this research and collecting data for the same. In addition to this, it has been identified that quantitative data analysis would be constructive in this context as the group of the study are predefined so collecting or gathering data from this group would be very easy and would also require very less effort. As influenced by the idea of Alasuutari (2008), it can be said that quantitative data are used as these data always help in collecting data from potential groups.
Research design: In reference to the context of Dean (2007), it can be said that the method for the collection of data has been selected as the questionnaire consisting of 20 close-ended questions. In addition to this, it can be said that the survey questionnaire is very much useful in gearing data from the primarily involved participants in the research. After the collection of the data, all the data will be analyzed quantitatively for presenting an accurate result of the data.
7. Research methods
Participant selection: As influenced by the idea of Beins (2017), it can be said that the selection of the participants is considered as one of the toughest aspects of the research study. The participants in this research study will be selected based on their knowledge and skill set in relevance to the topic of the research study. As stated Moon & Blackman (2014), it can be said that as in the research survey questionnaire is selected for conducting research and gathering information, the researcher will have to find the participants on the basis of their willingness to share their experiences for helping to precede the research study.
Data gathering processes: It has already been mentioned in the earlier section of the research that the method used for collecting data for conducting this research will be surveying questions and quantitative data analysis. As influenced by the idea of Fox (2014), it can be said that quantitative data analysis is used for having substantial shreds of evidence regarding the selected topic of the research.
Formulation of data: The data collected for the research decides the type of approach research will have in it. There are basically three types of approaches such as inductive, adductive and deductive. The formulation of the data will furthermore, help in deciding the approach of data. As influenced by the idea of Alasuutari (2008), it can be said that for this type of research study mainly deductive approach is selected which helps in verifying each and every information that will be collected for the conducting of the research.
Methods for analyzing data: In reference to the context of Bertrand Russell, it can be said that there are many methods for analyzing the data that are collected for conducting research. However, for this research, quantitative data analysis has been chosen that will be used in the research for analyzing the collected data gathered from the experienced participants of the research.
8. Ethical issues
As this research is entirely based on the topic of body shaming and the effect of body shaming on the lives of the young people, therefore it is essential to consider the thought or viewpoint of both male and female regarding the topic (Alasuutari, 2008). As influenced by the idea of Moon & Blackman, (2014), it can be said that, in addition to this, it is also imperative to ensure the individualism of the participants in the research. Finally, along with the individualism of the participants, it is also essential to identify whether the information gathered is true and genuine in every way or not (Moon & Blackman, 2014).
