You should include specific examples of current impacts on businesses in the sector you have selected.
Impact of Climate Change for Tourism Industry
Introduction
The tourism sector can be measured as a financial sector that is highly sensitive to climate change. Possibly no other industry is further reliant on climate compare to travel and tourism. From hot, sunny, cold, snowy mountains, and turbulence-free flights, nearly every facet of the climate affect the tourism sector (Bhatt, Pandya & Modi, 2019). Also, the tourism sector will be profitable if the weather is pleasant on the other side, the sunshine and warm weather will adversely affect the industry. In addition, the report focuses on the climate affected accommodations of the tourism sector and their consequences. The impact can be measured as positive or negative, direct or indirect, quantitative or qualitative.
Discussion
Dogru et al. (2019) stated that climate change affects the weather patterns such as moistness, wind, sunny, rainfall along with its flora and fauna. It is influenced by oceans, land surfaces and sheets of ice, which composed of the atmosphere is called the 'climate change. Further, climate plays an important role in the tourism industry. Climate change is also foreseen to consequence in climate-related instability and infrastructure-related risks. Amplified prices, primarily for fuel, will lead to corrosion in line with traveler demand for travel, and long-standing changes in climate will influence the value of numerous destinations. In addition, climate change will indirectly affect changes in biodiversity, water resources, and landscape.
Global warming seems to create a vital impact on tourism industry owing to its effect on climate change. For example, in a survey on the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) in Australia has made it evident that global warming has resulted in climate change which has damaged tourism (Zeppel, 2012). For instance, global warming has resulted in bleaching and loss of marine life. Tourism is perception-based and tourist visits the GBR with the expectation of pristine water and comprehensive marine life. However, damage to the natural environment would affect the decision-making of the travelers thereby reducing the profitability (Anderson, 2016).
Furthermore, climate changes due to global warming large hotel and resort destinations will face progressively changeable weather, water scarceness and weather variations. The tourism sector is highly affected by climate change as is evident in the Australia tourism sector (Siddiqui& Imran, 2019). Tourists mainly visit Australia to witness extraordinary natural wonders. Besides, these destinations are as extreme weather events as worsening and sea-level rise. Some of the nation's most attractive scenic spots, including beaches, can be transformed into 'no-go zones' during peak holiday seasons with thrilling temperatures reaching up to 50 high degrees in Sydney and Melbourne. However, the people are not likely to travel in summer which impacts negatively on the revenue of the hotel industry of Australia (Scott, Hall & Gössling, 2019).
According to Nyberg & Wright, (2019), change in climate has a key probability to affect the profitability of tourism thereby hampering the overall GDP of Australia. Also, tourism is a highly developed industry in Australia, which provides over approx. 5 million jobs. It has the power to change destination outlines and changing industry conclusions. Since the tourism industry hinges on completely on natural sites, such as lake, mountains, sea, fishing, winter sports. The underwater coral ridges have been beginning to drying up, marine animals have died and this will in the end outcome in lesser numbers of tourists which leads to less profit and less revenue for the hotel. It is because tourists are attracted to the beauty of the nature Australia as they are not only interested to see only the ocean but also enjoy adventure. Moreover, if a hotel is situated in a place where it is raining heavily due to climate change, there can be flooding at that place, due to which tourists will feel insecure to go there even if that hotel is giving a good discount or better accommodations. Overall, it is seen that tourism has helped in the growth of GDP of Australia and reduction in the tourists due to weather changes can massively affect the economy of the country.
Apart from this, Australia is termed to be as dry and hot nation and has underway experiencing impacts at a very fast pace. The nation has experienced 11 hottest years in the last 12 years and it is expected the temperature will rise soon, resulting in damage to countrywide resources including the Great Barrier Reef, Kakadu. The plan to reduce carbon pollution would lead industries to tax carbon use to pay for carbon in other words and it would set a boundary on Australia's involvement to carbon pollution. The strategy is a cap and trade emanations model created to reduce emissions of Australia's greenhouse gases. The scheme would look after the level of emissions, transport, and industrial waste; in total the scheme will cover 75% of Australia's greenhouse gases (Bhatt, Pandya & Modi, 2019).
The changes in the climate are bound to create impact on the attraction, flows and planning of tourism. As is evident in the study of Amelung & Nicholls (2014), the climate change has created major affect on the Australian tourism industry with decline in the climatic and desirable attractiveness from north to south. It has been evident in the study that by 2080, the northern-half of Australia may fall outside the zone of ‘unfavorable climatic condition’ thereby affecting the general tourism condition in December-February (Appendix 1) (Amelung & Nicholls, 2014). However, the southern cost would continue to enjoy the ideal condition for tourism which would enhance the flocking of tourists.
Moreover, as an outcome of climate change, the island confronted thrilling drought and water shortage, and even with widespread water-saving measures, this was felt by the hotel industry. It is essential and advantageous to execute additional measures to aid in order to overcome this problem. For instance, during hot weather hotels request their guests to avoid water fights and instead enjoy water activities in the pool to help preserve more water. Further, many hotels and resorts have undergone several initiatives aimed at dipping the impact on the environment, from organic farming to dropping food imports from non-local resources to paper straws, glass bottles, and plastic to diminish plastic waste. Biodegradable or recycled packaging is using more in the industry. Furthermore, promoting green jobs in ecotourism is one of the most effective ways to decrease the causes of climate change, while diminishing immigration and protecting local cultures. They are intended to give advance accommodation to their guests (Zeppel, 2012).
Thus, incorporation of such practices in hotel industry successfully can attract travelers even after the adverse climate changes in Australia.
Conclusion
It has been summarized from the above essay that climate change is a fluctuation in the weather pattern as such cold, hot, sunny, raining, and more. It affects positively and negatively both to the hotel industry. Further, the tourism industry of Australia contributes majorly to the economy. Further, climate influence both tourist and hotel, in hot many people are not likely to go such detention which impacts badly on the revenue of the hotels. Furthermore, there are many activities such as reduce carbon emissions, growing organic foods, recycling and so on, implement by the resorts and hotels in Australia. They do with the intention to give advance accommodation to their guests.
