Case Note Exercise

Hart v Rankin [1979] WAR 144

There are two distinct components to this AT2 Case Note Exercise:

  1. Students are required to prepare a case note on the decision in Hart v Rankin [1979] WAR 144. This is a descriptive task and should follow the established format for the preparation of case notes (see Corbett-Jarvis and Grigg, Effective Legal Writing: A Practical Guide Lexis Nexis 2nd edition, 2017 pp150-160 for guidance on format.)
  2. Additionally, students are required to provide a brief critical analysis of the decision. This part of the exercise requires you to evaluate the decision and provide your opinion on the decision and the reasoning used.

750 words in total for the case note exercise (inclusive of headings and any footnotes)

The Australian Guide to Legal Citation, 4th edition should be used as a guide to referencing for this assessment piece. Please see the Unit Outline for further details.

An application for an extension must be submitted in writing and supported by appropriate documentation (e.g. medical certificate) prior to the due date for the assignment.

This case note exercise is worth 25% of your final assessment in Law122.
