The presence of human resource management within an organization helps in focusing on the recruitment process of the new candidates, management of the employees and provides direction to the employees working in the organization towards the same goal. The management of the human resource is an important part of any organization, so it is in St-Margaret’s Nursing Home. HRM helps in understanding the process of recruitment and designing of the strategies that are important in order to build a team, which works effectively for the organization. In this report will explain the various ways of recruiting individuals, building of effective teams, analyzing their performance and the various approaches of managing the employees in the organization. 

Part 1 preparation for performance evaluation

Task 1 processes for recruiting individuals 

1.1 Explanations of the different factors that are required to be considered while planning the recruitment process of an individual in order to work at St-Margaret’s Nursing Home 

For the recruitment of an individual to work in St-Margaret Nursing Home, various factors are to be considered. The very first factor is the defining of the requirements of the individuals who are to be selected for working in the nursing home. Sometimes there is the requirement of replacement of the existing employees due their overall consistent bad performance in the workplace. This is to be checked first in St-Margaret’s Nursing Home, and identify if there is any requirement of replacement. It is important for the Nursing home to mention the job role of the vacant positions in the workplace. The specifications that are required to be selected in the desired position are to be mentioned along with the job role of the vacant positions. These specifications will include the capabilities of the employees and the skill requirement that will also include the education level and the previous working experience. These specifications are important to be evaluated by the recruitment team in order to select the ideal candidate for the desired vacancy during the interview process (Salthouse, 2016). 

Before conducting any recruitment for the candidates who will be joining the Nursing Home, there has to be, an internal recruitment conduced for the vacant position. In this process, the existing employees of the Nursing home are allowed to sit for the interview for the vacant positions. If no candidate is selected then the organization has to conduct an interview for the recruitment of the new candidates. For this reason, the Nursing Home needs to advertise for the job role through various mediums like internet, newspaper, job centre and many others. Proper advertisement of the job role is essential factor for the planning of the recruitment process in St-Margaret’s Nursing Home (Armstrong and Taylor, 2014). 

1.2 Changes in the recruitment and selection policies and procedures of St-Margaret’s Nursing Home in order to fit the wider legal context 

Every country and location has its own legislative policies and regulations. The selection of candidates and the recruitment process of the individuals in United Kingdom are based on the various legislative acts that are prevalent in the country. Various acts are included in the legislative acts. Some of which are Employment Rights Act 1996, The Equality Act 2010, Race Relations Act 2000 and many others. It is important for all the organizations to follow these Acts and add them into their rules and regulations. These acts govern the employment recruitment policies of the Nursing Home and the entire process is affected by the inclusion of these regulations into the organization. These acts ensure that the employees are getting proper wages and there is presence of employment tribal methods in the organization. The inclusion of such acts will ensure that the employees are being protected from any kind of discrimination (Krueger and Casey, 2014). This discrimination is of two types, direct discrimination and indirect discrimination. Direct discrimination involves the rejection of people in various activities of the organization such as protected characteristics, not hiring the employees for particular job role, giving them certain terms and condition, which are not applied to everyone in the organization. Indirect discrimination includes disfavoring of employees in the organization from various policies, practices and procedures that are present in the organization. 1.3 Evaluations of the different approaches, which can be used in order to ensure that the best individual is selected with recommendation for St-Margaret’s Nursing Home 

For the selection and recruitment of the best individual to be recruited in the vacant position in the workplace, there are two types of selection procedure that can be utilized. Two of which are given and described below:

Interview: Interview is considered the first step that is used in the recruitment process. It is the most important step that is to be followed by the employers or the recruitment team of the organization. A panel of individuals or higher authorities of the organization St-Margaret’s Nursing Home or an individual, or a committee whose focus is to conduct interviews can conduct this interview process. There are various benefits of conducting such interviews. One of such benefit is that the interviewer can get a better idea of the candidate who has applied for the job role. The Nursing Home should give more emphasis on the candidates with better confidence.

There are various theories that can be used to increase the meaning of interaction among various individuals working in groups, which is in relation to the different types of teams that are working in the health and social care sector in the market. One such teamwork theory based on interacting system is given below and it is known as the Tuckman theory.

Forming: it is based on the leadership of a person in order to take guidance from the individual. In this system, the employees are always upgraded with new ideas and knowledge. In this step or interacting system, the employees ensure that they keep calm and are organized with their work. They try to gather information regarding the various opportunities and the challenges that are prevalent in the workplace and starts working on those opportunities effectively. 

Storming: In this method, the teams try to identify the various issues that are present in the workplace and gather information accordingly.  It the most important step for the group development and ensures proper teamwork in the workplace.        

Norming: it is the third step where the members of the team agree on the common ground and put their views and ideas regarding the issue that has been raised. 

Performing: this is the stage where the team members peacefully conduct their work, as they know their responsibilities.   • Ensuring that the core objective of the team is easily understood and agreed by all the members of the organization or the Nursing Home
  • The team members must utilize their skills and strengths in fulfilling the goals of the organization. The team members should work on their weak points as strength and skills of the organization are important factors for effective team working
  • All the team members of an organization must be engaged in the various activities of the health and social care. This is to be ensured while working on the management and observation to make sure that there is no presence of the barriers in the communication between the employees 
  • All the members of the team must be allowed to speak and express their views and ideas openly in the meeting that is conducted at the nursing home. This arrangement of meeting involves various activities like arranging the meeting, supplying the meeting and management of the team for the meeting (Bowling, 2014).

Various systems can be used in order to monitor and promote the development of the individuals. It is important to understand the systems of monitoring the development of the individuals. The development of the individuals is based on various theories and criterion that has been mentioned in the next sections. It is to be analyzed that promoting the development of the employees in the organization of the St-Margaret’s Nursing Home will enhance the working structure of the organization. There will be better working relationship between the employees. The employees will be able to understand the value of their work and will give more effort in the development of the organization by enhancing their working skills. In the next sections there has been a brief discussion provided on the ways to monitor the performance of the individual in the health and social care organizations. This is done by evaluating the performance of the individuals’ through various ways like Feedback generation and reinforcement. It is to be seen that individual training is also essential to develop the working efficiency of the employees in a health care organization.  The application of the various theories on the employees will help the them boost their performance and will also allow them to increase their level of confidence. This is again important in order to ensure that the working relationship is maintained between the various employees’s in the organization. It is important to develop a proper management approach to make sure that the employees are working effectively. All these measures at the end help the individuals working in the Nursing Home to work more effectively. These procedures and methods make sure that the growth of the organization is intact and there is proper development of the employees. Behavioral Theoretical model and situational theoretical models helps the individuals working in the organization to identify the various leadership models that will help the individuals to use them in their development process. It will also make sure that the organizations get the best work done from the employees (Li and Lam, 2013).

In order to monitor the performance of the individual who are working in the health and social care department of an organization, there are various approaches, which can be used. These ways can be described as addressing the performance level of the individuals, evaluating the standard of the working capacity of the employees by conducting various merit tests, setting a standard goal that is be to achieve by the individual and many others. Measurement, praising the performance of the individual, feedback, reinforcement positively, ideas sharing, and agreement on the specific notes are considered the ways, which can be used to measure the performance of the individuals. Measurement is the goal accomplishment level, appraisal relates to the praising of the individual for their good performance, making of a positive feedback in order to check the level of progress of the individual and assist them whenever needed. These are some of the ways to monitor the performance level of the individuals (McCann and Ortega-Argilés, 2015). 

3.2 assessing the individual training and development needs at St-Margaret’s Nursing Home 

In order to identify the individual training needs and development needs at the St-Margaret’s Nursing Home, there are various assessment techniques, which are to be used in the Nursing Home. These assessment techniques can be re-evaluating the business goals, addressing the activities that are critical, monitoring of the performance quality of the individuals and the team. Assessment of the problem domain, finding the weak points of the team and the members of the team in order to find the perfect solution so that the team can work on those weak points and indulge in self-growth is important in order to monitor and assess the individuals. Various strategies are there, which are important in order to promote the development of the individuals in a continuous manner. There are two of such strategies. First is the performance feedback and the second is incentive system which is important especially in the organizations of health and social care. Performance feedback can be considered as the imperative and important criterion that is used to enhance the level of performance of an individual working in the Nursing Home. This is done in order to understand the level of performance of the individual. Performance feedback allows the individuals to know their weaknesses, which are to be rectified, by the individual and the strengths that can be enhanced to make the work done by them more effective for the organization. Providing incentives to the employees ensures that the individuals are constantly praised for their work in the organization. This allows the individuals to boost their confidence level and improve the level of working in the Nursing Home. These strategies are important in order to motivate the employees to give much better performance and rectify the mistakes that are done by them (Reason, 2016).

The different theories of leadership can be explained with the help of a brief discussion on the different theoretical model of leadership. These theoretical models of leadership are given below.

Behavioral Theoretical Model  

It is opposite form of trait theory. In this form of leadership theory the negatives of the trait theory is introduced. The individuals base it on the learning of the leadership techniques. In this methods research is conducted on the different behavioral pattern of the prosperous leaders, attitude of those leaders and finding of the leadership style of those leaders. In this theory, it is observed that the leaders are more dedicated to the gaining of high power instead of affiliation. According to this theory, it has been observed that leadership is learned and not inherited. 

Situational theoretical model

In this approach, different styles of leadership and their patterns are identified depending on the different levels of the leaders and their position in the organization. According to this theory, it has been seen that situational theoretical model is based on the various situations. These theories suggest that there are three types of leadership like authoritarian, democratic and laissez-faire style of leadership (Bradler et al, 2016). 

4.2 analysis of management of working relationship at St-Margaret's Nursing Home

Management of the working relationship at St-Margaret’s Nursing Home has to be conducted in the appropriate manner. Every individual working in the Nursing Home must get their tasks allocated to them in accordance to their capacity. This is done in order to ensure that the working relationship of the individuals can be easily managed. The members of the Nursing Home must be aware of their roles and responsibilities. The employees must communicate among themselves if any mistake has occurred in the due course of the working hours in order to avoid any job failure. This is done to ensure that all the members of the Nursing Home are working effectively maintaining their relationship with each other. This will avoid any conflict in the organization, as it will help in maintaining the working relationship between the employees. The employees of the St-Margaret’s Nursing Home must ensure that they are conducting their work mindfully and are aware of their roles and responsibilities. This will help the organization to maintain peace among the workers (Day et al, 2014). 

4.3 Self development influenced by management approaches encountered in personal experience

The management approaches has influenced my personal development in the following ways:

  • The learning of the various leadership techniques has influenced the working procedure. Leadership indicates the lively, dynamic, and active relationship, which is based on a common purpose that influences leaders and co-workers
  • The management approaches has ensured that there is maintenance of working relationship between the co-workers. 
  • it has helped me in developing skills in the recruitment process that requires proper evaluation of the candidates
  • self development is highly influenced by management approaches as it helps in improving the skills of the individuals (Kolb, 2014

Thus, it can be concluded that St-Margaret’s Nursing Home needs to apply appropriate methods of recruitment in order to recruit the best candidate for the organization. The organization needs to make certain amendments in the procedures that are being followed by them until date. These procedures can be termed as development of the individuals working in the workplace, maintaining the working relationship between the employees and ensuring proper management approaches to be included in the organization. It has been observed that the Nursing home needs to incorporate leadership qualities in the organization. This will ensure that the employees are motivated, thus providing the organization with the best possible working structure and growth.
