Contemporary Hotel and Tourism Issues

Introduction

The specific assignment would focus on identification of three contemporary issues which is having an influence of global tourism. The selected contemporary issues in global tourism are lacking of professional ethics amongst the tourist guides, Terrorism influence on tourism and sub-optimal tourism business opportunities in LDC countries.

Discussion

This section would reflect upon critical analysis of three contemporary issues in world tourism, which is derived free academic and non-academic sources.

Lacking of professional ethics amongst the tourism guide

In accordance to the tourism Industry, Tour guides play a pivotal role in maintaining certain professional ethics which influences the travelling experiences of the tourists and ultimately determines growth within the tourism sector. As opined by Lei, Miao & Peiwen (2018), lack of professionalism is discussed in details which serves to be one of the most eminent contemporary issues within the global tourism sector. This is because the tourism companies pay less attention on providing education of professional ethics to the tour guides. The companies are more focused on improving the business skillsets of tour guides rather than abiding by the ethical conducts (Lei, Miao & Peiwen, 2018). The It is further notable that the overall quality of the tourist guides are relatively poor as they are more focused on leisure activities and emphasize less towards laborious activity. The article emphasizes on Chinese tourism perspective suggesting that the tourist lacks patience and enthusiastic approach while accompanying the tourists. Additionally, Lei, Miao & Peiwen (2018), stated that some of the guides does not have sufficient self-consciousness for strengthening the moral cultivation which could have enhanced their level of professional ethics effectively. In this context, it could be stated that a guide should always have an empathic attitude, informative and generous by nature. As per the viewpoint of Financial Tribune (2017), lack of tourist guides with proper maintenance of ethics is affecting the global tourism sector as a whole. The licensed center of learning is to be criticized for failing to train the tourist guides properly even after charging fees from them. Most of the tourist guides lacks the basic knowledge and unaware of the ethical conducts they need to abide by while guiding the tourists. Owing to the scarcity of knowledgeable tourist guides, the normal consumers are finding difficulty to cope up with those destinations that they are not familiar with. This contemporary issue needs immediate attention for enhancing the overall development of global tourism.

Sub-Optimized business opportunities of tourism within the LDC nations

In majority of the LDC nations, the tourism sector is unable to establish as per potentiality owing to poor infrastructure and transportation facilities which is affecting the business developmental opportunities within the tourism sector. Inferior road and air transporting create hazards for optimized business developments in least developed nations across the globe. In this context, Saner, Yiu & Filadoro (2019), stated that lacking of infrastructure is also affecting the productivity of the tourism business. In most of the situations, the scale which is needed for improving the overall infrastructure often exceeds the potentiality of the LDC nations. In majority of the LDC nations, most of the individuals are subjected to the aspect of informal economy and therefore, alleviating poverty could be a tedious task (Saner, Yiu & Filadoro, 2019). Irrespective of the fact some of the LDC nations are known for its scenic beauty and rich cultural heritage, tourism development is minimal due to unavailability of funding and proper resources. Owing to the poor infrastructure and transportation facilities, the global tourism is suffering as a whole from the financial perspective. As opined by Phiri et al., 2017) inferior infrastructure and pricing are hindering the overall growth within the tourism sector. In this context, it was stated that even though the Malawians patronized areas has experienced growth for the last one year, the pricing constraints is often preventing the sector from attainment of its full potentiality towards economic growth (Phiri et al., 2017). Lack of infrastructure not only affects international tourism, but it hinders the progress of domestic tourism as well. Poor networking of transportation and electricity often creates a dilemma in the mind of the consumers to decide upon whether to visit their desired location or not. In case of a medical emergency, lack of basic facilities could really raise concerns for the visiting tourist. The contemporary issues should be addressed with immediate effect as it could hamper the overall productivity of the tourism business in the global market.

Terrorism influence on Tourism

Tourists often tend to visit destinations for relaxing and spending quality time with near ones. Political turbulence due to the presence of terrorism activities can often result in developing a fear instinct in the mind of the tourist, who might not be willing to visit the place anymore despite being fond of the particular location. It also results in spreading a negative word of mouth which influences the decision making of other tourists negatively (Asongu & Nwachukwu, 2018). The negative externalities of tourism are raising the concerns of uncertainties in regards to global tourism. Furthermore, the article suggested that violent demonstrations and acts of homicides often inflict harmful impact on the mental status of tourists (Asongu & Nwachukwu, 2018). In this context, tourists often hesitate to visit those countries which has poor political relationship with the host nation. In this context, it could be stated that there is essentiality to implement effective policies and ensure police securities for protection of the tourists. As per the findings of Monaghan & Butler (2017), the number of tourist visits have reduced drastically after the recent attacks of tourism in London and Manchester. On an overall note, the tourists became very much cautious and hesitant to visit the specific place owing to the recency of attack during that time. However, due to the strong security measures in the country, situations came under control. However, the same incident may not repeat in other nations across the globe. In this context, there is an essentiality to address this concern and ensure global security standardizations for protection of tourists.

Conclusion

While concluding, it could be stated that emphasis should be given on enhancing education of professional ethics amongst the tourist guides and interventions should be made for improving the infrastructure and transporting activities within the least developing countries. The terrorism externalities should also be handled effectively through tightening of security so that consumers can travel without hesitation.
