The UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) which was formally adopted in 2007, recognizes the rights of indigenous peoples: to self determination (Article 4); to maintain and strengthen their distinct political, legal, economic, social and cultural institutions (Article 5);to own, use, develop and control the lands, territories and resources that they possess by reason of traditional ownership or … use (Article 26); to maintain, control, protect and develop their cultural heritage, traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions (Article 31).
The Policy Brief:
You have been employed by an international non-government organization (INGO) to write a Policy Brief providing an overview and summarizing the current state of government policy on Indigenous peoples in the Asian region with regard to one of the Articles concerning the rights of Indigenous peoples provided in the UNDRIP.
Include a concise statement of the key issue(s) involved in protection of these rights in your introduction, an analysis of the extent of compliance in the region.

Summarizing the policy of the UN with regards to human rights of tribals and indigenous people in Asia
The ‘Resolution adopted by the General Assembly’ is a document by United Nations. The 61/295. UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, is a document that focuses on establishing the human rights for indigenous people of Asia where in it is established that they should not be discriminated against.
“Affirming that indigenous peoples are equal to all other peoples in spite of their differences and offering them an equal opportunity in the long term is crucial” (Asian Development Bank 2009).
The document aims to affirm that there be no discrimination or intolerance of indigenous people as a part of the human rights program of the UN. The document is a holistic analysis of human rights for the Asian indigenous people certifying that indigenous people are also to be considered as equal to other people and not be discriminated against.
