Instructions:

This assessment requires you to apply leadership skills and strategies explored in the subject as a team. You will be divided into groups or team of 4-5 members. The teams will be provided a public health scenario in which collaboration and change management is required. The scenario will describe a public health related problem where a change is required, and different types of leadership roles are in consideration. Your task is to apply knowledge from this subject and critical thinking on how to respond to this scenario as a team.

There are two parts to this assignment: Part 1 is a Group Presentation (30%), and Part 2 is an Individual Reflection task (20%).

Part 1: Group Presentation (15 mins; 30%)

Focusing on the challenges in the scenario, each team will present an analysis of how leadership, power, ethics and values affect each other and subsequently, provide strategies for collaboration and effective change management. (Please note that each scenario has to be addressed by the team focusing on that specific context)

You need to discuss 3 aspects from the perspective of your team leadership level:

  1. Power: In the context (scenario provided), what type of power do you have as a team? Over whom do you have this type of power? What values should you hold, and what ethical considerations should you be aware of?
  2. Collaboration and empowerment: With whom do you need to collaborate as a team? What strategies (plans of action) can you use to facilitate collaboration? How can you empower the people you lead? How can you have good governance (sharing responsibility, accountability and power)?
  3. Change: What strategies (plans of action) could you use to facilitate change management to respond effectively to the scenario?

Note: It is mandatory that each group member will present (speak).

Part 2: Reflection task (750 words, 20%)

Reflect on your experience of working with the other group members to prepare your presentation. Focus on answering these questions in your own words:

  • How did you prepare/contribute to the team presentation?
  • How did you draw on your own leadership skills to work in the team?
  • Self-reflection: What did you learn about yourself being a member of the team?

Power

Type of power 

The type of power that could be effectively utilised according to the scenario is legitimate power. The legitimate power is the type of power of the manager or the leaders. It is also known as the traditional power that helps to lead or manager the entire activity of the team within a suitable and effective process (Raven, 2017). It is the formal type of power that is effectively utilised within the team according to the scenario. This power helps the city council and the community group to develop their value and their working function within the market (Wellman et al., 2016). With the help of legitimate power, it is the position that eventually provides the power to the team to perform their activity within the community for its betterment. It is one of the most suitable powers that has been utilised within the community to develop the value of the city and also to maintain the health benefits within the city. The legitimate power is lost if the leader or the team lose their position then the power automatically disappears. It is because the entire team and the other people are highly influenced due to the power of the position and they are also bound to follow the information due to the position power.

On whom the power works 

The legitimate power according to the scenario works on the hospital then the city population and also on the team members. It is the fact that the team has a suitable power to maintain their activity within the field and provide a proper understanding for developing the value of the team activity in the health care system. It effectively provides the view from the scenario that the team can gather the information and also the charge is to increase the immunisation rate of the cities. The team has to perform their activity effectively within the field and provide a valuable understanding (Raven, 2017). For developing the value of the city council and their activity in term of healthcare activities it is highly essential to maintain the activity of the city regarding the healthcare facilities. The team also induce their power on the population and the healthcare sector regarding the increment in the screen rate of the cancer patients. The power is also utilised on the entire city population regarding the assessment of the risk inherent for both the cities to maintain the health care system.


Value and Ethical consideration 

The value and the ethical consideration that is highly essential for maintaining the healthcare activity and the value of the people of both the cities. The ethical value of the team members needs to be effectively utilised where each of the team members communicates effectively with the people and the healthcare sectors for sharing their value within the field (Riasi, & Asadzadeh, 2016). The ethical consideration of the entire team is to gain information regarding healthcare activity within the field. The ethical consideration is to gain the information for the immunisation activity within the cities and also to maintain proper documents for dealing with the activity of the team members. In most of the situation, it can be seen that the entire activity of the firm is to deal with the situation and provide the team members to maintain proper documents regarding the entire activity of the team (van Werven, Bouwmeester, & Cornelissen, 2015).
