Your task

Part B: Choose either Community Blog 1 (Assessment 2) or Community Blog 2 (Assignment 3) and identify examples of competing values, paradoxical views and complementary models identified by your community of MTLs. Prepare a report on your findings remembering to include the importance of these elements to the function of management within a tourism, hospitality, events, gastronomic, business organisation and from the perspective of a Master Manager.

Using the guidelines of reflecting writing, prepare a commentary that considers the following:

Have you experienced areas of significant and/or minimal or no change, between your 1st and the 2nd CVF ‘spiderweb’?

What circumstances (personal, learning, work) influenced changes (or lack of) throughout your management journey to date?

Did the community interaction and more specifically, the management team learners influence any outcomes of your second survey (chaged your views, reinforced your views?)

Which areas of the CVF do you feel requires some improvement? Why?

If you were asked to consider your own Master Manager competencies, how would you best describe them?

Reflecting on Management

Part A:

Reflective commentary:

In the View of Quinn et al. (2015), four quadrants are present in measuring the competence value of a manager in an organisation. They are, create, collaborate, control and compete. Along with that, it can be told that the spider web is used to analyse the competency of a manager in an organisation. Organizations use the competing value survey to recognise the values which are required to functioning properly like the collaborative skill of employees, what are the skill level of employees regarding creativity and so on. According to my first spider web or the CVF survey, I have some flaws in two areas they are created and collaborative section. Although, I have strength in compete and control section. But when I compared my two CVF surveys results, I found significant changes in them.  The shape of the second Spider Web totally changed as compared to the first one. According to the first spider web, my deficiencies are in the field of mentor role as well as in the innovator role. But as per the image of another spider Web, I scored better on those two fields.

On the other hand, I have strengths in the director role, but the second spider web demonstrated that my competence decreased in the section. However, I can say that the overall result of the second spider web is far better than the previous one. I improved the scenario. Throughout my managerial journey, I think that mentoring capacity and leadership approach is very significant to accomplish the project crucially and bring the outcome precisely. According to the result of the spider web two, I can say that I improved my mentoring capacity, which can help me to monitor my colleagues regarding their tasks. As per the comparison of CVF surveys, I made significant improvement in mentor role as the number increased from 4.0 to 6.0.

Along with that, I observed that I improved my innovator role capacity, which is very beneficial to innovate new ideas regarding the accomplishment of several projects works. I scored in the innovator role increase from 5.0 to 6.0. This scoring can help me in future to think innovatively regarding any sort of task.

Though, according to the tasks of a manager, director role is vital as team members' motivation, their productivity, their needs' fulfilment depends upon the manager. Along with that, a manager has to direct the team members to increase productivity as well as to accomplish the project successfully. But, from comparing my two CVF surveys, I found that my score in director role crucially dropped down from 6.4 to 5.2. According to the score, I recognised that I have to learn the values of a manager for improving my director role.

Concerning the aspects of the management role, I think that I am going to play a better coordinator role during my assignments. The score of the first spider web demonstrates that I got 5.4 in the coordinator role. Whereas, I scored 5.6 in the coordinator role according to the second spider web. Hence, I can tell that my coordination skill improved simultaneously.

From my point of view, facilitation is also crucial for a manager to facilitate teammates. But my score decreased in the second CVF survey. I got 5.8 ratings in my first CVF survey for the facilitator role, whereas I scored just 5.2 in the second CVF survey. Apart from that, my score is decreased regarding the producer role as well. I scored 6.0 in my first CVF survey whereas, I scored 5.2 in the second CVF survey. I think regarding this scenario; I have to improve my producer role score for improving my productivity level. Besides, I got 5.7 in regarding broker role in the first Spider web. But the second CVF survey represents that I scored just 5.2.

According to the comparison of two CVF surveys, I think that regarding the managerial skills, I significantly improved coordinator, innovator and mentor role. Improvement of these field assists me to increase my creativity level and experiment on some new ideas more as I am strong enough to do the same. Furthermore, I think I can coordinate with team members quickly, which is a very crucial factor for accomplishing a project. Continuous improvement, interacting with everyone is not so easy all the time. But my scores inspire me to do that. Lastly, I can say that depth sense in my key competencies helps me to develop my career as efficient and effective management professional as well as I can achieve growth in the managerial field by improving my deficiencies.
