Answer :

REFLECTIVE JOURNAL B

Describe:

This module is about procurement management and I have learnt about sustainable procurement management in detail. According to Walker and Brammer (2016), procurement management is mainly about contracts between two parties though when the procurement process focuses on sustainability that is economic, social and environmental sustainability during its entire life cycle, it is called sustainable procurement management.  One of the most interesting aspects I read about sustainable procurement management is that in this process, organisations not only focus on their profitability but also for society in general. The analysis of the economic, social and environmental elements of sustainable procurement management has helped me to understand about sustainability concepts brought out by different organisations.

Interpret:

Even though most of the aspects of sustainable procurement management was interesting to me, I am a little bit concerned about the implementation process as sustainable procurement depends on principles like accountability, transparency, ethical behaviour, continuous improvement, innovative solutions, respect for stakeholders and so on (Ghadimi et al. 2016). However, after reading this week's materials, my understanding of procurement management has changed. Interestingly, the procurement management principles which I thought now seems wrong and the ones taught in the lecture seems to appropriate. However, one of the missing elements I identified in this week's lecture is that it does not include real-life examples of organisations that have already implemented this. Presence of that could have helped me to gain a better practical understanding of sustainable procurement. In regards to the topic taught this week, I have completely changed my mind about sustainable procurement management principles which were completely missing in me as I thought procurement management is only about contracting.

Evaluate:

The learning of the principles of sustainable procurement could help me in future to manage procurement activities in my future organisation. However, as practical examples of implementation were missing, I am still unsure about the right steps to be taken for the implementation of the principles for proper sustainable procurement management. I need to learn more about this to apply in future endeavours.

Plan:

I would like to learn about sustainable procurement management, the principles, the methods and mechanisms for its real-life application. Understanding of this can help me to be knowledgeable about modern age procurement management methods. Moreover, I can make use of this knowledge to get better employment in a big organisation where sustainable procurement management is required.
