For family welfare, planning it is essential to identify critical associated with the family and consideration of the application of well-known theoretical perspective to find out proper solutions of situations. This study delineates a critical approach by considering the case study of Kelly’s family and tries to apply different social theories for developing an effective recommendation for the welfare of this family. This study considers the aspects of attachment theory in order to realize the issues related to the family of Kelly in a reliable manner. Moreover, Piaget development stages also have been considered in this study in order to illustrate the psychological perspective children of this family.

Attachment theory and its application in case study

Consideration of attachment theory can help to realize different factors which are associated with the emotional attachment as well as the physical attachment is necessary for enhancing the level of personal development of a child (Collins, Jordan & Coleman, 2013). As per the illustration of the case study, Alexander is facing challenges related to psychological attachment with his parents (Burford, 2017). This can be considered as one of the major issue according to the attachment theory, which is increasing barriers in front of personal growth of Alexander, and due to this reason, Alexander is getting addicted of marijuana smoking (Geldard, Geldard & Foo, 2013).

Here, lack of mental support from Emma, Liam and stepmother Amanda can be considered as the main cause of this problem (Trotter, 2013). The impact of family conflict can be considered another issue an impact of which can be seen in the personal development of Children according to the attachment theory (Van Veelenet al. 2018). From this case study it can be stated that anxiety problem of Brittany can be considered as one of the major example of the impact of family conflict on mental stability of children (Grosset al. 2017). The financial conditions of the Amanda is gradually decreasing since Liam is trying to retire from work life and this can be considered as the major reason behind the financial issue associated with this family (Winteret al. 2017). On the other hand, from Kelly’s perspective family violence can be considered as the major cause of psychological issues of Caitlin (Fearon & Roisman, 2017).

As mentioned in attachment theory insecure-ambivalent attachment can be seen in this case and an impact of this can be seen in the lack of confidence Caitlin for developing reading and writing skill (Knight, 2017). In this case, presence of William can be considered as one of the major positive aspects, which can help to mitigate this issue associated with the mantel challenge of Caitlin (Kerpelman & Pittman, 2018). On the other hand, Noah’s injustice to his children can be considered as oppose of the factors associated with the secure attachment (Dunkel & Harbke, 2017). Another criterion of attachment theory is parents need to concern about psychological needs of their children for Alexander this violation of this rule is very significant (Crocettiet al. 2017). This can be considered as one of the major factors for which Alexander is facing mental challenges (Haine-Schlagel& Walsh, 2015). Moreover, Liam’s rules that are more stringent can be considered as another major challenge for mental growth of Alexander (Mauroet al. 2017).

According to the attachment theory, early separation of parents can be considered as one of the major reason of insecure attachment (Healthy Families, 2019). Renewal of bond associated with a new relationship makes impact on the psychological characteristics of a child and in this case study, this type of issue can be seen for the children of Kelly, Emma and Amanda (Social Workers, 2019). According to the case study, Kelly resides with her new partner William who is deported from Australia. Kelly’s past husband was Noah who tortured Kelly emotionally and physically (Parentingrc, 2019). These all can be considered as the major reason for the insecure attachment for Kelly’s children (Willispalmer, 2019)

Erikson theory and its application in the case study

The Erikson psychological development stages helps to realize different needs for psychological growth of a child (Willispalmer, 2019). According to this theory, eight stages of psychological development are present for development of cognition of people (Good Therapy, 2019). In this regard, trust and Mistrust can be considered as the first step towards resolving the issue (Social Workers, 2019). From the perspective of Alexander, it can be stated that Alexander is facing problems for trusting people (Collins, Jordan & Coleman, 2013). This is creating barriers in front of psychological development of Alexander, which needs to be considered by the parents of Alexander (Burford, 2017). Moreover, Alexander is facing the issue related to Identity vs. role confusion and this can be considered as the fifth stage of Erikson stages of mental development (Geldard, Geldard& Foo, 2013).

In this stage due to in appearance of psychological bonding with parents a child, face identity issue. This can be considered as one of the major reason behind marijuana addiction of Alexander (Trotter, 2013). Besides this, during 6-12 years of age children mentality belongs in the stage of Industry over inferiority, which can be considered as another major stage of mental development (Van Veelenet al. 2018). In this stage, children try to relate the works of their peers from the perspective of their family’s interaction (Grosset al. 2017). From the case study due to lack of involvement of Noah with his family Caitlin is facing psychological challenges and negative impact of this issue can be seen in the reading and writing of Caitlin (Winteret al. 2017). Brittany on the other hand, facing the issues related to anxiety for issue related to the relationship in intimacy in family members (Fearon & Roisman, 2017). Due to increasing financial instability of the family of Amanda due to decision of Liam related to the retirement this is increasing family conflicts, which can be considered a one of the major reason for growing anxiety problem of Brittany (Knight, 2017).

According to the Erikson, psychological theory proclivity over stagnation can be in early adulthood of the people during this stage people develops their cognition related to relationship and values related to the relationship (Kerpelman & Pittman, 2018). This stage helps to develop personality of a person by providing the person knowledge related to primary values and ethics (Dunkel & Harbke, 2017). In this stage mental support of parents and discipline of parents plays a pivotal role (Crocettiet al. 2017). Moreover, the emotional connection between parents and children also plays a crucial role for Alexander this issue can be seen due to conflicting relationship between the parents of Alexander (Haine-Schlagel & Walsh, 2015).

Child-centered approach and its application in the case

According to the child-centered approach, it can be stated that supportiveness can be considered as one of the major factors associated with physical and mental growth of children (Mauroet al. 2017). Parents needs to be supportive and needs to provide effective mental support to their children in order to enhance the mental growth of the children (Healthy Families, 2019). According to the case study, it can be noted that Noah and Kelly have problems in their married life and negative impact of this can be seen on the cognitive growth of Cailtlin (Healthy Families, 2019). In this regards teacher of Cailtlin has mentioned about autism problem of Cailtlin (Parentingrc, 2019). Most of the cases this problem can be seen in the children due to improper communication among their parents and this hampers the mental development of the children in most of the time (Willispalmer, 2019).

The presence of William as a new family member can be considered as another reason, which is making further negative impact on the mental health of Cailtlin. Cailtlin needs proper assertive outreach to mitigate the mental issues (Good Therapy, 2019). For young person it is necessary to involve them in the decision making process associated with the family since this can help to provide them effective mental support by helping them to recognize that they are part of family (Social Workers, 2019). For Alexander development stringent rules by Liam is opposing this type of child-centered approach (Burford, 2017).

Liam is taking this decision for restricting the behavioral issues of Alexander, which is increasing level of pressure on Alexander, and in future, this can make negative impact on the growth of Alexander mentality (Geldard & Foo, 2013). Hence, from this point of view it can be stated that Liam and Amanda are unable to develop proper child centered guideline for their children (Trotter, 2013). Similar analysis also can be made for Brittany and due to this reason, it can be stated that Amanda’s family needs to consider child-centered practice (Van Veelenet al. 2018). According to the child centered, approach the parent’s needs to provide their children proper scope to express their feelings and this can be considered as one of the major necessities for mental development of a child (Grosset al. 2017).

Anxiety issue of Brittany can be measured on this ground and this can help to realize that due to increasing financial conflict in Amanda’s family conflicting issue can also be seen in the relationship between the family members (Winteret al. 2017). This is restricting the scope for Brittany to personal feelings and this can be considered as the main source of the problems of Anxiety for Brittany (Fearon & Roisman, 2017). The participation of all family members in decision-making process can be considered as the procedure by which this issue can be mitigated (Knight, 2017). Due to this reason, Amanda needs to provide proper mental concern for Brittany to mitigate anxiety issues of Brittany (Kerpelman & Pittman, 2018). Moreover, from the ground of Child centered practice it can be stated that sufficient knowledge related to the procedure of complaining needs to be provided to the young people and children (Dunkel & Harbke, 2017).

For Alexander this can be considered as one of the most essential factors since this can help Alexander to show interest related to new school (Crocettiet al. 2017). Moreover, the conflicting issues between Amanda and Emma about the change of school is affecting the mental growth of Alexander and making negative impact on the mental growth of Alexander (Haine-Schlagel & Walsh, 2015). For Cailtlin same issue can be noted which is making negative impact on the mental growth of Cailtlin and due to this reason, Cailtlin is facing problems in reading and writing(Healthy Families, 2019). Due to the family conflicts of Kelly, she is not able to provide proper guidance to Cailtlin and from child centered approach emotional attachment with parents plays a pivotal role for holistic personality development of children (Social Workers, 2019).

Cailtlin is facing challenge related to mental attachment due to conflict between Noah and Kelly (Parentingrc, 2019). Moreover, disorderly behavior of William can be considered as another major issue for Cailtlin (Willispalmer, 2019). This is increasing mental challenge for Cailtlin by increasing challenges related to mental supports for Cailtlin (Good Therapy, 2019). Due to this reason, Cailtlin is facing problems related to Autism. Similar issue can be seen for the twin children of Colby since it can increase the mental stress of Brett and Colby (Social Workers, 2019). Since Brett and Colby both works for hence issue can be seen in the child-centered care due to lack of available time for Brett as well as for Colby (Collins, Jordan & Coleman, 2013). Additionally the children are surrogated children, which can increase the conflicting issues between Brett and Colby, which in turn can increase the level of family conflict among them (Burford, 2017).

Development of collaborative plan can be considered as another major considerations for elevating the effectiveness of child centered practice thus for lack of available time Brett and Colby can face this issue (Geldard & Foo, 2013). This can increase the barrier in front of collaborative planning related to care plan associated with their twin children in future (Trotter, 2013). Moreover, previously Brett was involved with gambling which is another issue since in future Brett can be addicted with gambling again, which can make negative impact on the cognitive growth of twin children (Van Veelenet al. 2018).

Personal values in the ground of the case study

Kelly’s family has diverse relational issues which can be considered as one of the major reasons for the problems which are facing by the young candidates and children of this family (Grosset al. 2017). From the humanitarian point of view, Noah’s behavior with his children and wife are not acceptable (Winteret al. 2017). Moreover, from the cultural background Cailtlin is facing the issues related to cultural diversity with William (Fearon & Roisman, 2017). This can be considered as another major issue associated with the mental growth of Cailtlin (Knight, 2017). From the background of humanity, it can be stated that Amanda and Emma needs to behave politely with Alexander for developing mental health of Alexander (Kerpelman & Pittman, 2018).

According to the NASW, code of ethics parents needs to value their relationship, which can be considered as one of the primary ethical factors associated with social working (Dunkel & Harbke, 2017). From the perspective of Amanda’s family conflicting issues in the family member are very common and one of the major issue behind this is financial instability (Crocettiet al. 2017). Furthermore, the members of Kelly’s family do not provide deserved priority to their family members and this can be considered as another major issue in this regards (Haine-Schlagel& Walsh, 2015).

From the perspective of Emma, it can be stated that as a mother she is not providing necessary mental support to her son Alexander and this can be considered as another major issue from the ground of basic values (Mauroet al. 2017). Showing dignity is another major consideration of personal values according to NASW (National Association of Social Workers) values and ethics related to social workers (Healthy Families, 2019). From personal aspect, it can be stated that family members need to show dignity for each other to elevate the level of effectiveness of personal relationship (Social Workers, 2019). Kelly, Amanda and Emma all have issue related to showing dignity to their family members as evidence their background and current marital status can be exemplified (Parentingrc, 2019). Kelly is living with her partner William and Cailtlin is unable to accept this (Good Therapy, 2019). Integrity in the relationship can be considered as another crucial factor a lack of which can be seen in the Amanda’s family and evidence of this can be considered as behavioral issue of the Alexander for which he is transferring from one school to another (Social Workers, 2019).

Proper theoretical perspective is needed for welfare of family moreover consideration of primary values and ethics also plays a crucial factor here. From the ground of attachment theory, it can be stated that family members need to be emotionally attached with each other. However, in Kelly’s family this issue related to emotional attachment, which is affecting the mental condition of Cailtlin. A negative impact of this can be seen on the reading and writing of Cailtlin. Due to thi8s family issue of Kelly, Cailtlin is facing problems of Autism. Moreover, it can be concluded from the study that, according to Erikson development stages Alexander is facing the issues related to identity vs. role. An impact of this can be shown as Marijuana addiction of Alexander. In addition to this, it can also be concluded that Brittany is facing issues related to anxiety, which can be considered as the aftermath of increasing family conflict of Brittany.
