Social Theory

Introduction

Through the essay, the purpose is to identify the social work theories and critically evaluate reflection of  social practices and the learning derived from the group participation. Social theories have helped to understand how to dissect the human behaviors and situation  to integrate the social practices (Bernburg, 2019).

In my opinion, social work theories are often the mindset to attempt and explain situations and to foster social relationships. To relate with it, often the theories such as the Marxist theory along with the conflict theory can help to examine the structural inequality within society. Structural theory in the society helps to examine how  the perspectives can help to interpret the incidences and evaluate them with the inequality, wealth, health, and income which helps to generate different life chances which can be evaluated from the different life experiences (Bourdieu 2019)

Social theories and Perspectives

Social work theories and the perspective  helps to identify the societal conditions along with the functioning. During week 1 to 6 sessions, apart from understanding the dynamic work environment, the social theories helped to redefine the relationship and give a changing perspective which is equally challenging. Through a consistent framework, it is important to understand the social context and examine the complexities to identify the solutions. As per the social theories, the social worker gets a different perspective and even helps the people to foster relations in a better ways to handle inline to the social circumstances. The theories help the social worker from the everyday practices, to adopt a similar pattern and identify rationed related to regularities in practice. Often the theory also helps to determine ways to influence the human behaviors, factors, and even the rationality of how to correct the factors (Clifford, 2019). The theories would be explained through human behaviors and factors can influence in different ways. For example, the theory of Culturally Sensitive Practices has helped to understand how the stereotyping, racism, and oppression can be due to the repeated same instances. The theories help to understand how human behavior enacts and how due to the theories and the practices, it helps to influence unconscious mind experiences.

The theoretical paradigm identified through the social practices helps examines how in a society depending on the fundamental assumptions and links with sociological thinking also applies in the research. Depending on the social worker it would be important for the helper to build relationship with the families, with the communities and with the essential groups to understand the case and the relevant practices. The decision can be taken based on the actions of  the social worker requirement and professional knowledge. Social work also accounts for one own experiences, which can be personal and professional and the theories help to formulate the values and believes and relate to the situations, depending on the theories and the practices (DeLanda, 2019).

For example, as per the theory of the Ecosystem, the perspective was created within the social work as to how balance the relationship that can exist in between the environment and the individual. It would be dependent on social work practices and how the influence of the environmental, situational based disadvantage can be impacting. Similarly,  the  theory of the strength-based practices, emphasis on how to draw an individual self-belief and the determination. The social work practices, irrespective of the individual’s environment it is important t to abide by certain strengths, wisdom, and knowledge. Due to the approach, the focus remains on the social worker who needs to explore solutions and resources (Elliott, 2019).

Theories

Marxism,

The Karl Marx theory has helped to provide a correlation, that can be linked to the relationship existing between the economy and the workers which are within the system. Marx developed a theory that is identified as human society's progress on how there can be a struggle between the two distinct social classes. The proletariat, which are the workers, belonging to the lower class, often the person doing complex jobs, considered as the labor, but in comparison, the labor work done by the lower class is often the reaped benefits or the profits by the upper-class managers, bosses, and rulers, which are also called as the bourgeoisie. Due to the unbalanced system, the problem lies in the Marxism theory, that the governments need to protect the wealth and not the common good.

For this, Marx has also identified the paradigm, under which the philosophy, economy, along with the politics can be indented. Marx formulated and even examined such scientific study of society. Further, it was important for the founding principles of sociology to determine the discipline. Marx has also identified from the mixture of historical research along with mixing with the scientific methods, a society that can be linked logically and rationally.

Then, Marx's theories have been identified to be impactful in the society which can work in relation to the economic systems. Depending on the Marxist sociology the economics defines social roles and expectations. Marx's social theory emphasizes on the money is used as the power to control the working class and secondly how the social class can help to define the given type of work. Lastly, the relationship examined between the workers, money along with drawing poison of the government, and society.  The importance of the economy influencing social inequality (Lind,  2019).

Marx's theories have also identified a sociological perspective of the conflict theory, that emphasizes how capitalism can create conflicts between the workers and the rulers (Lyons, 2019). As per the theory, society needs to identify how the class conflict can also create wealth in power and relate to the poor as subjects to the government. Conflict theory can be identified as the social ways of building the class conflict, and how Marx has designed the overall importance to protect the wealthy, and not for the society as a whole.

Social conflict theory also examines how there can be individuals and groups (social classes) defined in the society that can work in relation to the conflict rather than consensus. Due to the various forms of conflict, groups can be identified as differing amounts of material and non-material resources (Marginson, 2019).

Strength

The main strength of the theory is how the social class can equate with the inequality that can be identified within the social structure and how the conflict and contradictions can create a problematic challenge. The theory of relevant practice is to identify the contradictions in relation to the interests and conflict due to the scarce resources and as per the foundation of social society (Marginson, 2019).  Depending on the higher class it is also important to examine the importance of the privileges, power, and the related status and social position and it is important to create the influence. The theory strength is determining the class and segregation of the influence within the politics, education, along with the other institutions that can further protect the capital and resources. Depending on the lower class and the higher class do have the capital that can be protected. The theory helps to examine relationships how in the given scenario, to gain access it would be important to identify the resources and capital as per the higher class.

Weakness

The weakness of theory does not hold importance within the class within the market economies and how to have the economic gain. The theory identifies, as to how the group of individuals can be sharing the market economy and with the virtue of the factual findings to similar economic rewards. Another way is how the person's class situation can be associated with the market situation (Repko 2020). Depending on the similar class situation it is also important to hold a life chance.

Theory 2

General Systems Theory

General systems theory (GST) has been propounded by Ludwig von Bertalanffy (1968). The theory has been identified as the complex systems that can share organizing principles and also how the theory examines the systems. The Systems theory is known as the interdisciplinary study of the systems, depending on the study of the cohesive conglomeration often the inter-related interdependent parts have to be examined in terms of the natural or human-made. Due to this, space and time, can also be examined in relation to the environment, and can be related to the structure and purpose, and also how there can be functioning (Tool, 2019). The system needs to be also examined as per the sum of its parts depending on the synergy or emergent behavior. The changing system can help to examine how there can be parts or the whole system. Another way is to identify such as changes in patterns of behavior. Depending on the systems, how there can be adaptive, the degree of adaptation depends, and relevancy to the system that can be engaged in the environment (van Wijk, 2019). To generate the systems support it is important to understand the system to prevent failure.

Strength

The general systems of theory strength are of the evaluation of the system's dynamics, constraints, and adopting the condition the elucidate principles (for example the purpose, measure, methods, and having the set tools. It can be further be discerned and applied inline to the systems at every level of nesting, and depending on the achieving equifinality (Tool, 2019).

Weakness

The weakness of the theory is to identify how there can be a broad category in relation to the developing concepts and principles as per the one domain of knowledge. The theory further examines how there can be dynamic or active systems that can be gained from the static or passive systems. Active systems are also derived structures or components which can be interactive and be related to the behaviors and processes. Passive systems can be identified as to how the structures and components can be identified to be processed.

Relation to practice

The social work theories during weeks 1 to 6, has been important and enacted as an eye-opener in understanding human behaviors, human beings, and also deriving the socially defined structure (Marginson, 2019). The theories in the practice of the social worker would help to note how there can be relevant routes, maps, and also the implications to the social worker inline with his/her practice skills.

Social workers do also hold an ethical and professional responsibility that can cause a disadvantage to individuals, groups, or families in the best possible manner. It would also help to ascertain to observe assessments, interaction, and intervention with individuals and also drawing relevancy to the environment. Social worker’s practice as per the practice can also be due to theoretical knowledge. For example, when working with the Maori clients, the main focus would be on the four dimensions which are the spiritual, emotional, and physical along with the extended family dimension (Marginson, 2019)

Social workers can also help to identify how there can be their practice and how to use the theories in terms of creating the work practice that can also create self-awareness which can help to honor the ethical practices and how to have the professional and personal core relations (Repko, 2019). The theories when applied in the practices, helps to understand the practice, value, and even derive the systematic evidence that can be relevant to the practices and towards the knowledge set one's practice.

Conclusion

To conclude, social work is identified as the profession which works for the betterment of society. Social theories can be evaluated from the lens of social practices and knowledge applied. As observed, by putting the theories within the framework, often the complexities are the relevant to key learning that can be understood by putting theories into the key practices. The problems are often identified by understanding the social theories and the understanding of the theorist perspective related to the future practice The social worker also works to promote wellbeing through empowering clients and by engaging the families or groups. The main understanding is of the interaction and influence of how to engage the people and have a supportive environment. Through better practices and also developing the support systems, the social work theories work with an adequate knowledge base and can generate the psychology theories based on human behavior.
